We value our trees and environment in the City of Charles Sturt

Trees help to:

  • Cool, green and beautify our City
  • Mitigate the effects of climate change
  • Support the health, wellbeing and vitality of our community
  • Cool our streets, homes and public places naturally - Tree-lined streets can be 8°C cooler than streets with minimal/no trees
  • Boost biodiversity and provide habitat for birds and wildlife
  • Ensure a lush future for generations to come

Our Tree Canopy Improvement Strategy provides a framework to reach a City-wide canopy target of 25% by 2045.

All trees and streetscapes owned or under Charles Sturt care are maintained according to our Tree and Vegetation Policy.

We encourage residents to refer to Plan SA's Adelaide Garden Guide for New Homes which features small garden designs and planting ideas to inspire people building new homes or extensions to add more greenery and improve the liveability of our neighbourhood.

Trees in Streets

We proactively plant and maintain trees across streets in our City in line with policies and guidelines.
Trees in Reserves

We are planting and maintaining trees on reserves to expand our tree canopy and benefit future generations.
Trees on Private Property

We encourage the retention, protection, planting and maintenance of trees on private property.
Significant and Regulated Trees

We recognise the important role of large and aged established trees in contributing to the character, canopy and wellness of our City.
