Go electric

South Australia is making the switch to cleaner and safer energy future by using renewable energy sources and going all-electric!

Electric appliance performance has improved over the past few years and these advances mean that we can all enjoy the cheaper heating, cooling, hot water and cooking. Use this Go Electric Plan so that when appliances need replacing, you are ready to make the switch.

You can calculate your savings based on the electrification changes you make using the Climate Council Calculator.

Getting started

Heat pump systems

Water heating makes up around one quarter of all energy use in Australian households, and the type of hot water system you have in your home makes a huge difference to your bills and environmental footprint.

What are heat pump water heaters? Traditional hot water systems heat water with electricity or gas like a stovetop kettle, but heat pump systems absorb warmth from the air and transfer it to heat water, like how air-conditioners work.

There are many different types of heat pump systems, so it is best to research what systems may suit you and your household before you need to replace your existing system.

Renew have great advice when it comes to choosing a new system. Check it out here.

Reverse cycle heating and cooling

In our region, we experience all four seasons, so heating and cooling are essential to the comfortability of our home, and our health. Heating and cooling accounts for around 40 percent of Australian household energy use, so choosing the right system can have big impacts on energy costs. Reverse-cycle air conditioning is the most cost-effective and energy-efficient way to heat and cool your home, and if you have solar, its also running on clean, renewable energy.

Electric transport

Transport accounts for 30% of Charles Sturt’s emissions. Riding, walking or catching public transport reduces air pollution, improves our physical and mental health, reduces emissions and helps the transition to an all-electric future. However, these forms of transportation are not always accessible or a suitable option, so when utilising private transport, we can still choose options that move away from fossil fuels.

Electric bikes, scooters and cars are all great low-emission options. Consider visiting the Green Vehicle Guide to research how your vehicle performs and as a resource to consider if you are looking into purchasing a new vehicle.

Solar and green power

Solar is one of the most effective ways to save on your energy bills and reduce your emissions. There are many different sizes and technicalities when it comes to solar, so it is always best to educate yourself and talk to some experts. It is worth watching the Renew Expert Webinar called New to Solar and Batteries.

Induction cooking

Induction cooktops have many advantages – faster performance, excellent temperature control, increased safety as the cooktop doesn’t get as hot, easy cleaning as its one flat surface and it is the most energy efficient option of all.
