There are several reports and callouts for the rescue of wildlife every year. Seaton, followed by Grange, Henley Beach and Fulham Gardens experience the highest rate of wandering wildlife.
The highest call-outs are birds while the second highest are possums, and rescues of the latter tree-dwelling mammal continue to grow in our City each year.
Organisations like Save Our Wildlife Foundation Inc (SOWFI) volunteer across the City of Charles Sturt to recover and care for misplaced wildlife, and are available around the clock for assistance.
What should I do if I see native wildlife?
SOWFI recommends the following should you spot or are concerned about a native animal:
- Save SOWFI's 24/7 rescue number on (08) 7120 6610 and use it for advice and rescue assistance
- Stop for injured wildlife and pouch check
- Regulate cats inside 24/7
- Encourage dogs inside at night
