Neighbour disputes

Before undertaking any works that may impact neighbouring properties, you may wish to speak directly with the owners of adjoining properties. Early communication can often prevent misunderstandings and assist in resolving potential concerns.

Disputes between neighbours about issues like fences, trees and matters relating to strata titles are civil matters. Guidance is available through publications provided by the Legal Services Commission.

A free mediation and conflict resolution service is provided through Uniting Communities Law Centre which can help support reaching an agreement between parties. Eligibility criteria apply including that one of the parties be on a low income or no income (i.e. receiving a Centrelink benefit). Visit the website for more details.
