How do we decide where to put a new path?
There are several factors that help us determine when and where to construct a new footpath or install access ramps:
Path Policy
Our Path Policy is our leading guide and helps us decide where and how to build footpaths, ramps, and driveway crossings in streets and public spaces that Council looks after.

Transport Asset Management Plan
Footpaths are an important part of our Transport Asset Management Plan. This plan outlines how we manage and maintain our footpath network to ensure it is safe, accessible, and well-maintained for everyone in our community.
The plan defines the service levels for footpaths and guides how we prioritise works and allocate resources. By taking a strategic and cost-effective approach, we aim to ensure our footpaths support safe and sustainable travel across our City now and into the future.

Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) Requirements
Council is required under the Disability Discrimination Act to make sure that path infrastructure across our City is designed and constructed to be safe and accessible for people with disability or with limited mobility.
Our Community
Did you know you can request a new footpath or access ramp? Our path program is already planned for the next four years, but we may still consider your request based on your specific needs and the needs of the wider community. While we can't guarantee it will be added, we will review and assess your request — and it might already be included in our future programs.
