Responsible Cafes

We have teamed up with Responsible Cafes to provide our local café community the tools, education and platform to help them reduce waste and make sustainable business decisions.

Responsible Cafes is a not-for-profit group committed to helping business reduce their environmental impact, become more efficient and potentially save on long-term running costs.

Responsible Cafes

Businesses taking part in the program will be able to access ongoing advice from the team and showcased on the Responsible Cafes website and map.

Businesses will also be connected with conscious consumers and visitors to the region through ongoing marketing campaigns and food and drink trails promoted through the Adelaide Beaches website and social media.

Information for cafes

Cafes not part of the pilot program can also take the first step by registering their café to receive a Coffee Bean rating. By registering you will join more than 5,000 cafes across Australia in promoting sustainable practices.

Registered Responsible Cafes have the opportunity to:

  • Increase customer loyalty
  • Attract new customers who value sustainable efforts
  • Promote their cafe through the website
  • Access free posters and information sheets
  • Be part of the movement to reduce waste and recycle more

Program outcomes

The City of Charles Sturt supported nine local businesses through the Responsible Cafes accreditation program and we were really impressed with the outcomes.

Through this initiative, our businesses achieved a 50% reduction in landfill waste, are saving $43-$772 per year, and are on track to divert 11,160 single use cups/lids.
