Artist opportunities

The City of Charles Sturt has a strong commitment to the development and provision of arts and cultural opportunities that are progressive, innovative and embrace a variety of stimulating approaches, mediums and scales.

In recognising this, the City of Charles Sturt has adopted a Public Art Policy and Guidelines to assist the community to create and install public art within the city.

Throughout the year, the City of Charles Sturt also offers a variety of opportunities in the arts, including, public art commissions, exhibition spaces, film competitions, community and public art projects, Arts & culture grants, events and festivals sponsorships, artist-led workshops and book launches to name a few.

We're supporting local artists, musicians and arts organisations adapt to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic through our Economic Support and Stimulus Package.

Our arts and culture support stream provides funding opportunities through our live and local initiative and our creative cities program.

Funded by the City of Charles Sturt Creative Cities Fund, Fleeting Moments is a resident led initiative to project works of local artists within various businesses across our City in October 2020.

The event organiser is currently seeking local artists to be involved in the project.

Local artists are welcome to exhibit artwork at no cost at our Civic (Woodville), Hindmarsh or West Lakes Libraries. We have space for artworks and sculptures large or small, indoors or outdoors.

Events provide a mechanism in delivering a leading and liveable City by providing social, physical and economic benefits to its businesses and residents.

Our Events and Festivals Sponsorship is just one way we are supporting those in delivering small scale local events and larger scale state events to benefit our entire community.

The City of Charles Sturt has established an artist registration subsidy scheme for Artists exhibiting in the City of Charles Sturt area. This scheme acknowledges the role that Artists and local venues play in the cultural life of the council area.

Subsidies of up to $125 are available to assist individuals and groups with the cost of registering for the SALA Festival.

Subsidies will be provided to artists who are:

  • Artists exhibiting within the City of Charles Sturt

Subsidies will only be provided for costs associated with registrations for SALA Festival. Multiple applications may be considered.

Applications close on 14 May 2021.

Exact allocation of subsidies will be dependent upon the number of applications received, the total grant pool is $3,000.

To apply for the SALA Subsidy artists must:

  • Register for SALA via their online form, by the SALA deadline (10 May 2021);
  • Pay the relevant fee to SALA;
  • Complete and email the ‘Application for Reimbursement’ form. Applications must include a copy of the SALA registration receipt.

Applications will be dated in order of receipt, and no correspondence will be entered into.
