About our city

We live and work on the lands of the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of the Adelaide Plains. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

The City of Charles Sturt was proclaimed on 1 January 1997. It joined together the former City of Hindmarsh Woodville and the City of Henley and Grange.

Our Council is west of the Central Business District of Adelaide, South Australia located between the city and the sea. You can see an interactive map of the City of Charles Sturt boundaries.

At Charles Sturt, we champion unity in diversity.

Our City is home to more than 120,000 people from over 105 cultures and backgrounds. Our residents all bring something special to our community - festivals, food, language, art, events, knowledge and skills.

You’ll find people from all corners of the globe around every corner. It is this richness which makes Charles Sturt such a vibrant place to live, work and play.

This is why the City of Charles Sturt means the world. It highlights not only what makes our City unique, but the pride of everyone who calls it home.

There is something for everyone in our City.

From the range of opportunities for business, sporting and leisure activities to arts, entertainment and international events.
