Your Neighbourhood Plan Update: Tapleys Hill Road Streetscape Upgrade

6 July 2026

We're delivering the next project from the Albert Park and Hendon Your Neighbourhood Plan, with streetscape upgrades planned for Tapleys Hill Road between Florence Street and Poplar Street.

This project is one of the priority initiatives identified through the community-led Your Neighbourhood Plan. The streetscape upgrade will improve connections to Hendon Shopping Centre and surrounding businesses, making it safer and easier for people to walk, access public transport and move through the area.

What's planned

Works include:

  • upgrading footpaths to improve accessibility
  • renewing kerbs and gutters
  • resurfacing road where required
  • improving the existing pedestrian crossing
  • installing raised threshold treatments at Florence Street, Sheppard Street and Poplar Street to improve pedestrian safety and enhance connectivity
  • constructing new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant kerb ramps
  • improving stormwater drainage

Why it's happening

The Albert Park and Hendon Your Neighbourhood Plan identified renewing the Tapleys Hill Road as an important local connection to shops, services and public transport.

Community feedback highlighted the need for better footpaths, improved lighting, safer streets and more welcoming places to walk and gather. This project helps bring that vision to life by improving the street environment around Hendon Shopping Centre and creating better links between local homes, businesses, services and bus stops.
