In 2020 we created the Your Neighbourhood Plan. More than a document, this plan focussed on identifying opportunities to help create great liveable neighbourhoods.
Albert Park and Hendon were identified as suburbs which would benefit from more green open space, more trees, and more welcoming business facades. The following projects were identified as part of the Your Neighbourhood Plan - Albert Park and Hendon in 2022:
Project 1) New local open space
- A new reserve is being created in Spad Street, Albert Park and construction will begin in January 2024
- Land was purchased from Housing SA to develop the open space and playground
Project 2) Local centre renewal
- Revitalisation for Tapleys Hill Road, Hendon and Royal Park (shops on both sides of the Road, mainly on the Royal Park side)
- Concept plan available for feedback until 27 October 2023
Project 3) May Street Living Streets upgrade
- Now complete
- Resurfaced road, safety features and new landscaping to make it more welcoming
Project 4) More Living Streets upgrades
- Murray Street, Albert Park
- Work commencing this year (2023)
Project 5) New shopping centre/meeting place
- Hendon Central is now complete
- We supported the development application and the proposal to include cafes and lunch shops
Project 6) Future housing code amendment
- We have supported a private proposal to rezone non-residential parts of Albert Park near Port Road for medium density housing and a new local open space.
