Funding for Renown Park, Living Streets

28 July 2023

We’re proud to have received $200k in funding through Green Adelaide’s Cooler, Greener, Wilder Grants Program which will go towards an upcoming multi-road reconstruction project in Renown Park.

Four intersecting streets within Renown Park (Bishop Street, Blight Street, Tait Street and Wright Street) have been identified in our Transport Asset Management Plan for road reconstruction from the 2023/24 financial year onwards.

This funding enables us to partner with Green Adelaide to achieve mutually aligned objectives which will increase the liveability of the Renown Park neighbourhood by improving:

  • Biodiversity Sensitive Urban Design (BSUD) which helps preserve the wide variety of plants and animals in urban areas, designing our City to be a welcoming and supportive environment for diverse wildlife.
  • Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) such as rain gardens which help to remove contaminants from the water before going to the main stormwater system, improving water quality.
  • Tree canopy cover which provides shade to keep our City cool as well as improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, and supporting biodiversity by providing habitats for animals.

The road reconstruction of Living Streets in Renown Park comprises of reconstructing the road pavement, concrete kerb and gutter, new asphalt surfacing, landscaping and traffic safety initiatives. The project aims to achieve a balance of a safe, slower vehicle speed environment along with improving urban greening, BSUD, WSUD and street amenity for all road users. The reconstruction of the roads also incorporates Living Street principles to provide a sense of place and ownership for residents within their streets.
