Memorial Requests

We recognise that members of the community may wish to use public open space to commemorate a person or groups of people through a memorial.

If you want to install a memorial plaque, seat or bench in memory of a loved one, you need to complete an application form.

PLEASE NOTE: We have reached capacity for memorial plaques to be installed on an existing or new seat along the Esplanade along our coastline from West Beach to Semaphore Park, however there are many other locations available throughout the City of Charles Sturt.

All costs of supply and installation of the memorial items including the plaque will be borne by the applicant/donor.

The applicant must make full payment upon approval of the memorial application.

A Council Officer will assess the area to determine the availability of the location and logistics. We'll contact you to discuss locations, wording and cost.

Plaque production and installation times may vary depending upon the location request and seat/bench availability.

The City of Charles Sturt will undertake the ordering, supply and installation of the memorial. A memorial item of park furniture must comply with the existing or proposed design or planting of that reserve. Plaques will not accompany trees.

Text for plaques must be approved by the City of Charles Sturt. When proposing text for a memorial plaque, please keep in mind the following information:

  • plaque text could include but is not limited to: the recipient/s name, significant dates, short message, applicants name/family
  • if you require the text in lower or uppercase (uppercase is recommended, as is easier to read over time)
  • a maximum of 46 characters per line (this includes all spacing and punctuation)
  • a maximum of 5 lines

Type of Memorial

  • new timber or metal picnic bench (1) see photos
  • new timber or metal reserve bench (dependent on location (2)
  • new timber or metal reserve seat with back (dependent on location (3)
  • new coast park path - seat (4)

Plaques

Bronzed Plaque – Standard size 220mm x 55mm (suitable for existing park bench or seat and existing timber bollard or fencing)

Styles of all furniture are subject to change at Council’s discretion.

Location

Please endeavour to provide as much detail as possible when outlining the specific location for the memorial during the application process.

We encourage applicants to upload photos of the requested location when submitting the Application Form.
