Bowden Brewing

Bowden Brewing was formed over a few beers, just like many other great ideas.

Their business idea came to life years ago, when a group of likeminded mates were enjoying a brew (or a few more) and brainstorming how they might be able to escape the daily grind. Brewing was more than a pipe dream, as we fast forward to present day where said group of mates left behind their nine-to-fives to operate Bowden Brewing.

Craft brewery, Bowden Brewing, is located within Plant 3 Bowden and features a main bar, shared seating space with the Plant 3 Bar and other residents, and upstairs Mezzanine and balcony overlooking Bowden Park. If you are feeling peckish, their in-house Mexican restaurant, Masa, has you covered with food inspired by the street-food culture of Mexico and created using local producers.

Fast-forward to today, where Bowden Brewing is about to celebrate their second birthday and employs 15 staff.

"My tip for other business owners would be to surround yourself with good people", advises Jake Phoenix, one of the head brewers.

Bowden Brewing has established itself as a premier destination for functions, offering a unique and versatile space that caters to a variety of functions, ranging from conferences and seminars to product launches. The venue's location, state-of-the-art facilities, and impeccable service make them a preferred choice for businesses seeking a professional yet vibrant atmosphere for their corporate gatherings.

In September 2022, Bowden Brewing teamed up with local City of Charles Sturt breweries, Big Shed Brewing Concern and Shapeshifter Brewing Company, to host their first ‘West Fest’ event. The collaboration was supported by a #shoplocal grant, to help get their idea off the ground in its first year. West Fest is the ultimate craft beer event in the west, with free bus loops, limited edition beer releases from each brewery, a signature event beer created by all three breweries, live music, Mexican food from Masa Kitchen, food from the Big Shed Kitchen and food trucks.

The event aims to showcase 'the best of the west', with more than 50 beers on offer on the day. Each venue not only releases its own beer made exclusively for this event expressing each brewery’s style, they join forces for a mega collaboration brew between all three venues.

The free-flowing bus-route makes for an easy trip across the three breweries. West Fest has ambition to keep growing each year and has already become an event not to be missed.

"Thanks to the generous grant from Charles Sturt Council, West Fest got off the ground and has been soaring ever since! Their support fuelled our vision and made our first event a smashing success. But that was just the beginning. With their continued backing, West Fest has grown beyond our wildest imagination, becoming a thriving community celebration that brings people together. Now, we're thrilled to see how much the event has grown and evolved, all thanks to the partnership we've built with the Council."

In March 2023, West Fest returned as part of the Adelaide Fringe program with even more local business collaborations: Caro Club, Kindred Coffee, House of Oyster, Shirni Sweets by Parwana and more.
