My Grandma Ben
Taylor shares her experience participating in our Business Support Program.
Their business has accessed grant funding to strategically achieve their sustainable goals.
Local café and caterer, My Grandma Ben, successfully applied for a Business Support grant to implement a further reduction of their single-use plastic and take further sustainable action.
The Udder Way
My Grandma Ben received grant support to install The Udder Way milk tap system serving Fleurieu Milk. Each reusable keg holds 18 litres of milk, automatically eliminating nine two-litre plastic bottles from going to landfill.
The value of business support
“The Business Support Program allowed us to take the next step on our journey to minimise waste in our café, My Grandma Ben”, says Taylor Peplow Ball of My Grandma Ben.
“We go through so many milk bottles in a week, so the introduction of a Milk Tap instead has allowed us to reduce our single use plastic milk bottles by at least 60 bottles per week. With the expertise from The Udder Way and Fleurieu Milk Company, and the financial support from City of Charles Sturt, we were able to install our milk tap and milk keg fridge quickly and seamlessly to start reducing our waste immediately.”
Green Alternatives
My Grandma Ben and Plant 4 Bowden have also been working with Reusably to offer returnable keep cups for take-away customers. The Reusably network caters to those who might have forgotten their keep cup or those searching for a sustainable reuse option.
“As a café that doesn't serve take away cups, reducing our waste even further in the coffee space has always been the next goal of ours, and we are so happy that we have been able to achieve this with the support we have received.”
My Grandma Ben also actively implements composting everything within the café, including scraps.
Green outcomes
Since installing the system earlier this year they have already saved over 1,854 milk bottles, which they track through a simple QR code.
Taylor remarks, “The tap and milk kegs have also been such a great talking point in the café, allowing us to further connect with the local community and our regular customers.”
The City of Charles Sturt is proud to have supported My Grandma Ben with their sustainable targets.
Additionally, Coffee in Common, Cirelli Coffee & Roastery, The Local Canteen Henley Beach, Mio Piatto, and IGA Bowden have also received grant support for an Udderway installation.
