Finding clarity to build a more focused business
For interior designer Lin Wang, founder of Linlin Interiors, creating thoughtful, functional spaces has always been her passion. Despite building an award-winning interior design business with a strong reputation, Lin found it difficult to translate that success into consistent business growth. Like many business owners, she was busy delivering for clients but wanted greater clarity around her long-term direction and how to grow sustainably.
Through the City of Charles Sturt's Business Support Program, Lin accessed strategic business mentoring with Adam Peach from Peachtree Advisory, giving her the opportunity to step back and focus on building a stronger future for her business.
"Before I had my coaching sessions with Adam, I was lost. I felt my business was stuck and I didn't know where I should lead my business."
Working alongside Adam, Lin clarified her personal and business goals, explored the type of business she wanted to build and developed practical strategies to better manage her time and prioritise activities that would support long-term growth.
The mentoring helped her identify where she could create the greatest value for her clients while building a more sustainable business for the future.
Rather than trying to do everything, Lin learnt how to focus on the work that aligned with her goals and long-term vision.
"After three sessions with Adam, I feel clear about what I want to do, which direction I should take my business and how I should allocate my time to make me more productive."
Lin says one of the biggest benefits wasn't just the practical advice, but the confidence she gained along the way.
The Business Support Program enabled her to access professional mentoring that she may not otherwise have pursued after a previous coaching experience left her hesitant to invest in business advice again.
As a result, Lin has:
- developed a clearer vision for the future of her business
- identified the business model that best aligns with her goals
- improved productivity through better time management
- developed a practical 90-day action plan
- strengthened confidence in strategic decision making
- positioned the business for sustainable growth.
The mentoring also encouraged Lin to think differently about the value of her services and the importance of focusing on clients who align with her business goals.
"I have gained confidence to turn down low-value clients, so I have more time to focus on high-value clients and serve them better."
Looking back, Lin says participating in the Business Support Program has been invaluable.
"I had worked with a business coach before who didn't know how to coach me, so I was hesitant to hire another coach. This opportunity showed me there are great coaches out there who can genuinely help businesses grow."
Today, Lin is applying the strategies she developed through the program while working on exciting new projects, including a restaurant fit-out in West Lakes.
"I feel no longer lost. I know what I should focus on. It's a great opportunity and I really appreciate the Council supporting my business."
For other local businesses considering applying, Lin's advice is simple: invest the time.
"Investing time in your business strategy makes a real difference. The clarity and direction I gained through the mentoring has changed how I approach my business every day."
