Coffee in Common

Coffee in Common

Davide and Sean share their experience participating in our Business Support Program.

Their business has leveraged our pilot Responsible Cafes program and subsequently accessed grant funding to strategically achieve their sustainable goals.

Local roastery and cafe, Coffee in Common, participated in our Responsible Cafes program, to take further sustainable action. During this time, they also successfully applied for a Business Support grant to implement a further reduction of their single-use plastic.

The Udder Way

Coffee in Common was the first business in our City to install The Udder Way milk tap system serving Fleurieu Milk. Each reusable keg holds 18 litre of milk, automatically eliminating nine 2 litre plastic bottles from going to landfill.

The café has also implemented the one-litre refillable glass milk bottle program for customers and residents.

The value of business support

“Working with Selma and the team at the City of Charles Sturt really helped us achieve the goals we set in reducing our everyday impact on the environment and help build a more sustainable future,” says Davide Cavuoto.

“Thanks to the City of Charles Sturt team for getting this whole set up over the line with their business support program! It wouldn’t have been possible without their help.”

“From day one we’ve always tried to be as environmentally conscious thru our green bean purchases, cafe practices, to our retail bags now being 100 percent commercially compostable.”

Green outcomes

The café calculates they will be eliminating approximately 60-80 single use plastic milk bottles per week at the cafe/roastery with the new tap.

The City of Charles Sturt is proud to have supported Coffee in Common with their sustainable targets.

Additionally, Cirelli Coffee & Roastery, My Grandma Ben, The Local Canteen Henley Beach, and Mio Piatto have also received grant support for installation of The Udder Way system.
