Skip Bin / Shipping Container

In some circumstances it is not possible for a skip bin or shipping container to be delivered on to private premises. Where there is no other alternative for placement of a skip bin or shipping container other than public land, you must get permission before delivery.

All applications are assessed by location, taking in to consideration the road width and kerb availability at the proposed delivery location. Some locations may not be appropriate and applicants may need to investigate other options to conduct their activity.

There is a non-refundable Application Fee of $100 for skip bins and shipping containers measuring 4 cubic metres or less. The fee must be paid on submission of the application and includes the first 3 days of placement on public land.

If a skip bin or shipping container measures 5 cubic metres and greater, a non-refundable Application Fee of $150 is payable on submission of the application and includes the first 3 days of placement on public land.

An additional fee of $50 for urgent permit applications applies for applications received with less than 5 working days' notice.

On approval of your application, the following fees apply:

Use of Council land for placement of Skip Bin or Shipping Container beyond initial 3 days

$25 per day

You need to supply the following information with your application:

  • copies of consultation with affected stakeholders (required where the skip or container will not be placed directly in front of your place of residence/business)
  • Certificate of Currency showing a minimum ten million dollars ($10,000,000) Public Liability Insurance
(please note that tax invoices are not considered sufficient evidence of a Public Liability Insurance Policy. If you do not have this, the supplier of the Skip Bin / Shipping Container may be able to provide you with this cover)
  • Site Plan of the proposed location

Applications will be considered within 5 business days from the date that all required information has been lodged with the Council.

If the Skip Bin or Shipping Container is to be located on or adjacent to an Arterial Road under the care and control of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, you will need to lodge an Application with the Traffic Management Centre before applying for this permit.

Please contact the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure on 1300 872 677. Once this application is approved and you have been given a reference number, you can then apply for a Skip Bin/Shipping Container permit.

Apply for a permit:

  1. Read the Skip Bin/Shipping Container Conditions.
  2. Complete the Application Form.

We'll let you know by email when we've received your application.

The assessment process will occur within 5 business days and includes:

  • confirmation of your details and required documentation supporting your application
  • investigation of your proposed activity

On approval, you will be provided with a permit confirming the approved activity and the conditions.
