Tree and Vegetation Removal Request on Public Land

Public requests for removal of trees that are dead, dying, diseased or of poor health or growth will be assessed by suitably qualified staff to determine if removal is required.

If a tree or other form of vegetation is of good health and condition, we will investigate all other alternative measures and ensure any legislative requirements are fulfilled before considering removal. We won’t remove a tree or other form of vegetation unless a valid reason as per our Tree and Vegetation Policy is demonstrated. We do not consider tree or vegetation removal on the following basis:

  • Householder preference for no street tree or for a different species;
  • Complaints about appearance (unless these are related to very poor health or structure);
  • Interruption of views;
  • Interruption of view to advertising/signage (general maintenance pruning may be undertaken for clear visibility of any legislative and/or traffic management signage. Requests to prune trees for business signage will be considered on a case by case basis);
  • Complaints about leaf litter, twigs or other debris;
  • Complaints relating to tree roots protruding above the ground or competing with lawns;
  • Bird or Animal noise and their associated mess;
  • Shading of solar panels; and
  • Property damage where the damage is not substantiated by an engineer’s report

If your request is deemed valid, staff will take into consideration legislative requirements, the health, condition, structural integrity, risk level and management options of the tree or vegetation when making their assessment.

If your request for tree or vegetation removal is not related to the reasons listed above and you have supporting documentation to substantiate your request (such as expert advice and photographs), please complete the Tree Removal Request form and have your documents ready to attach. If you prefer to make your request to us in writing, please clearly detail the valid reason for the tree or vegetation removal request and enclose your substantiating information.
