Queen & Elizabeth Streets - Road Reconstruction

To manage traffic, improve accessibility, and support local businesses and the community, the Queen & Elizabeth Street Road Reconstruction project is being delivered in stages across financial years.

Queen Street Renewal Work

Works on Queen Street (from Port Road to Day Terrace) include the following improvements:

• Reconstruction of Queen Street from Port Road to Day Terrace
• At-grade intersection treatment at Queen Street/Princes Street
• 5m wide zebra crossings at the intersection, with kerb ramps to prioritise pedestrians
• Landscaping at the intersections
• Path upgrade from Port Road to Day Terrace (both sides)

William Street Car Park

The William Street (Church) car park will include:

• Seven 90-degree parking spaces on the church side
• Additional green space included in the final design

Robert Street 

South Road to Brown Street includes:

• Kerb and gutter renewal
• Asphalt resurfacing of the road
• Complete footpath replacement with clay brick pavers
• Driveway crossovers (the section between property boundary and kerb) will be rebuilt in matching pavers
• Minor stormwater defect repairs

Elizabeth Street 

Elizabeth Street (Robert Street to end) includes:

• Reconstruction of Elizabeth Street from Robert Street to the end
• Redesigned intersection at Elizabeth Street/Robert Street at footpath level, with safer crossings and improved accessibility
• 5m wide zebra crossings with accessible kerb ramps
• Landscaping at the intersection
• Path upgrades on both sides from Robert Street to the end
• Possible artwork at the intersection, community consultation to follow at a later date

Project Background

The Queen Street/Elizabeth Street precinct in Croydon is a thriving area with a diverse mix of residential and retail land use and community facilities. The precinct is extremely popular with the local community but also attracts visitors from outside of the area due to its selection of eateries, retail shops and its popular children's playground.

In October 2022, we consulted with the local community in Croydon to identify any issues or opportunities related to the Queen & Elizabeth Street Road reconstruction project. Based on community feedback, we will revise the road alignment and surface treatments to enhance road safety and prepare for future decades. You can view the concept plans and illustrations here.
