Thousands Create History at Henley for Santos Tour Down Under

27 January 2026

Our community made it a day to remember as our City played host to the iconic Santos Tour Down Under for the first time ever.

Thousands of residents, visitors, cycling fans and families flocked to Henley to cheer on the riders as they powered along our coastline - transforming the foreshore into a buzzing festival of colour, energy and summer spirit. It was the perfect way to kick off the year together as a community.

Our ‘GO Henley’ event featured family friendly activities, community activations, local business offers and popup outdoor dining opportunities. The atmosphere was electric from early in the morning with the Adelaide Epic Ride giving amateur cyclists the chance to test themselves on the same course as the Santos Tour Down Under peloton before the main race began at 11:10am.

Mayor Angela Evans was thrilled to see the community embrace the event with an estimated 25,000 people visiting Henley Square throughout the morning.

“It’s the single biggest cycling event in the southern hemisphere and it puts an incredible spotlight not only on our Council, but also on this wonderful coastal postcode,” Mayor Evans shared.

“We had people of all ages and backgrounds in attendance to witness history at Henley in what was such a special milestone for our community.

“It was perfect weather and the perfect place for everyone to enjoy the day together – Go Henley.”

‘GO Henley’ brought world-class cycling to our coastline and highlighted what makes our City a great place to live, work and play - our beaches, our businesses and our community.

A huge thank you to local businesses and our community for embracing the event as well as the work of staff and the South Australian Tourism Commission behind the scenes.

‘GO Henley’ was also supported by the State and Federal Governments’ Algal Bloom Summer Plan, funded through the South Australian Tourism Commission’s Algal Bloom Event Support Fund.
