Council has formally endorsed our Statement of Commitment to Closing the Gap in Western Adelaide, strengthening its role in the Western Suburbs of Adelaide Place Based Partnership.
The Partnership brings together Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, local councils and state and federal government partners to support Aboriginal led priorities across the western suburbs.
Mayor Angela Evans said the endorsement reflects Council’s commitment to genuine partnership and shared decision making.
“This is about walking alongside Aboriginal communities and organisations, listening to lived experience and supporting locally driven solutions,” Mayor Evans said.
The Statement outlines Council’s role as a connector, convenor and enabler, with a focus on culturally safe engagement, two-way learning and mutual accountability. It also recognises that Closing the Gap requires a long-term commitment.
By endorsing and sharing this Statement with the community, Council is clearly stating its position that meaningful change happens when leadership is shared and community voices are central.
The City of Charles Sturt acknowledges the Kaurna people as Traditional Custodians of the land and honours the leadership of Aboriginal organisations working to improve outcomes for current and future generations.
