We have made the difficult decision to transition away from delivering services under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).
While there will be no immediate changes for active clients, Council’s involvement in the program will conclude on 30 June 2026. We will no longer accept new clients as of 1 March 2026.
This decision follows a review of the recent Aged Care Act 2024 changes introduced by the Federal Government, which significantly altered governance, compliance, and accountability requirements for organisations delivering aged care services. Continuing to provide CHSP services presented ongoing financial, operational, and regulatory risks that were not sustainable long term.
With many high-quality aged care providers operating locally, exiting the program is in the best interests of the community and the organisation.
What’s next?
Our commitment to our clients remains our priority. Over the coming months, the Ageing Well team will:
- Continue providing services to existing CHSP clients.
- Work closely with the Federal Government and alternative aged care providers.
- Support clients and families to ensure a smooth and respectful transition, with a focus on continuity of care for clients.
We recognise that Local Government plays an important role in nurturing social participation, lifelong learning, digital inclusion and place‑based wellbeing. This responsibility remains, and we will continue to connect, support and advocate for ageing well in our City.
