Update : Due to unforeseen circumstances affecting delivery of the new lighting, installation at Henley Square has been rescheduled and will now take place from 27 January.
The decorative lighting in Henley Square is being upgraded to a new, more durable design better suited to coastal conditions.
Works are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 27 January, starting with removal of the existing lights and followed by installation of the new lighting. Timeframes may vary depending on site conditions, with works expected to take up to two weeks. During this time, some areas within the Square may be temporarily cordoned off for safety, and the water feature may be switched off while works are underway. Pedestrian access through Henley Square and access to local businesses will be maintained at all times.
Once complete, the upgraded lighting will provide brighter, more reliable lighting for years to come.
The existing lighting is being replaced under warranty. The current design is no longer suited to the coastal environment, which can impact performance and longevity. The new lighting has been selected to better withstand coastal conditions and deliver a more reliable and consistent experience for the community.
Works include the removal and replacement of the decorative festoon lighting above the water feature in Henley Square.
The new lights will be installed in the same fanned design of 20 strings, maintaining the familiar look and feel of the Square. A scissor lift will be used to safely remove and install the lighting.
Removal works will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, starting from the two outer structures and progressing toward the centre of the Square. Works will commence from 4am on these days and are expected to continue throughout the day.
Installation of the new lighting is scheduled to follow, with works proposed to commence from 4am, and potentially from 6am on subsequent days, depending on site conditions.
Works are expected to take around five days to complete. Site conditions may impact timing and could extend the timeframe to up to two weeks.
Adequate lighting will be maintained in and around this area so the community can continue to safely use Henley Square during the works.
Local businesses have been notified of the works. Where possible, works will be scheduled during quieter hours to help minimise disruption.
