The City of Charles Sturt champions unity in diversity.
Our City is home to almost 130,000 people from over 105 cultures and backgrounds. Our residents all bring something special to our community - festivals, food, language, dance, art, events, music, knowledge and skills. You will find people from all corners of the globe around every corner, and it is this richness which makes Charles Sturt such a vibrant place to live, work and play.
Diversity and inclusion is fundamental to who we are and we strive to reflect this in everything we do. It is an underpinning theme in our new Community Vision. We acknowledge and embrace our Kaurna and First Nations communities as we work towards Reconciliation.
We recognise the shared history of 26 January and know that this date holds different meanings for different people. For some this is a day of celebration, but for others it is a day of reflection, sadness and mourning.
It is important to acknowledge the history of Aboriginal culture and the pain this date represents. It marks the anniversary of the British first fleet arrival and the claim of Aboriginal Land, which can be traumatic for some members in our community, and we share this history together.
Citizenship ceremonies are positive and celebratory occasions as we welcome new Australians from all backgrounds into our community. New citizens deserve to celebrate and be celebrated as freely as possible. Understanding and acknowledging these aspects of our shared history is essential for us to build a positive, inclusive and diverse future together.
We also announce and celebrate a range of community based Australia Day Awards at the January Citizenship Ceremony.
Our citizenship ceremonies will be held on the following dates and locations in 2025:
