Improving Our Waterways - Freshwater Lake

14 August 2025

Important maintenance works will begin shortly to remove carp, an invasive pest, from Freshwater Lake, West Lakes. This work is vital to best support the native wildlife and plants and help keep the waterway clean for the future.

The maintenance, undertaken by a contractor and our biodiversity team, will include draining of the ponds to remove the carp and removal of excess sediment, taken off-site daily. Some reeds will also be removed for access but there will be additional planting of native grasses following the completion of the works.

Machinery will be on-site, with restricted access to some pathways and traffic management in place at times. Fishing may also be limited to outside of the works area during this time. Works will occur between 7am - 4pm, Monday - Friday.

We anticipate works will begin week commencing 25 August and will be completed over the following weeks (weather permitting).

We appreciate the community's patience during this time.
