Want to learn how to live more sustainably all whilst making new connections in your community?
Gardening groups and activities are a great way to meet others, learn about gardening and share your knowledge. Did you know our Community Centres are also home to some wonderful gardens?
Cheltenham
Cheltenham's new community garden is ideal for picking fruits, vegetables and herbs while meeting new people. There is a pergola, playground and barbeque with a native bee hotel installed in partnership with Green Adelaide and Guardian Child Care Centre in 2023.
Bower Cottages
Join Bower Cottages' Fruit & Veg Swap held on the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:30am. The event brings neighbours together to share surplus fruit and veg from their gardens, while sharing ideas, knowledge, skills and good company.
The children at Goodstart Early Learning Semaphore Park visit regularly to learn about composting, pick flowers, water seeds and collect bugs.
Findon
The Herb Society of South Australia meets on the first Monday of each month from 7pm-10:30pm. In April and September, the group holds a free workshop to learn about propagating herbs and salvias.
The Findon Community Centres also hosts the 'Seed Savers' each quarter to share and swap seeds.
19 on Green
Sustainable West is a community-led initiative focused on expanding and improving recycling practices in our area. The group helps people recycle and reuse items like glasses, x-rays and polystyrene.
Make sure to check out the innovative recycling station at 19 on Green and Hindmarsh Library.
Brompton Community Garden
Located next to 19 on Green, this garden is nurtured by an active group of community members who share a passion for gardening and socialising. The garden features 46 plots in total with seasonal fruit, veggies and flowers.
There are more exciting things to come in this vibrant space including gardening and season food workshops in the new year.
