The reconstruction of Hawker Street between Blight Street and Chief Street will begin Monday, 21 October 2024, as part of our commitment to transforming our City and valuing nature.
The project will deliver significant improvements, including new road surfaces, upgraded footpaths, stormwater drainage renewal, and safer pedestrian crossings.
In addition to enhancing safety, the project will introduce greener streetscapes with planted kerb build-outs, reinforcing our goal of creating a more sustainable and beautiful environment. The upgrades will also ensure compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), making the area more accessible for everyone.
Traffic management will be in place throughout construction, but businesses will remain open.
Completion is expected by October 2025.
