Sweeper to Support Riverland Recovery

Riverland residents might spot a Charles Sturt sweeper on their streets over the next few weeks.

We’ve loaned a street sweeper to Berri Barmera Council to help assist with the clean-up and recovery effort following widespread flooding in the region.

Berri Barmera Council only has one sweeper of their own which can now focus on maintaining town streetscapes, while the second sweeper will be used directly in flood recovery operations. Extra sweeper brushes and other tools were also on board.

Our mechanics Joe and Jaxon gave the sweeper a spruce, before Fleet Manager Evert and Motor Mechanic Iman volunteered their time to drive the sweeper to Berri early on Saturday morning.

Berri Barmera Council’s Manager of Infrastructure and Operations David Pluckhahn met the duo at the Council Depot for the sweeper’s arrival at 9:30am.

City of Charles Sturt CEO Paul Sutton said it was important councils worked together through challenging times.

“We really feel for our friends in the Riverland who have been affected by these floods,” he said.

“We’ve sent sandbags, sandbagging machinery and now a street sweeper to try and assist the councils and those communities in the region.

“We put a call out through the Local Government Functional Support Group and Berri Barmera Council reached out. It’s great to support each other and build these sorts of relationships between our organisations.

“I’d also like to thank our staff who volunteered their time and expertise to prepare and deliver the street sweeper to Berri Barmera Council.”

Our thoughts remain with Riverland residents and councils as they continue the clean-up over the coming months.
