The City of Charles Sturt, currently home to nearly 125,000 residents from 105 different cultures, continues to support affordable housing supply through the rezoning of strategic land parcels across our City.
Our most recent project is in Kilkenny, and has taken several years to be realised, as we worked to ensure opportunities for new and affordable homes, together with quality open space, and links to transport and travel options while working to protect local jobs.
We will now rezone an iconic land parcel that many will know as the previous ‘Bianco Site’ at Kilkenny from an industrial area to a residential area, accommodating around 300 dwellings up to a maximum of 4 storeys adjacent the rail station and only 8 minutes to Adelaide’s CBD.
The 3.3 hectare site will add further vitality to an area of our City that’s a hidden gem, creating jobs, more public open space, a shared bike link for the cycling and walking greenway to the city and housing choices for our community including 15% of affordable dwellings.
This project comes on the back of also rezoning of the 12.6 hectare site at Kidman Park (formerly Metcash) that will be developed by SA Company Fairland, with demolition already complete. 12.5% of the site will be set aside for public open space and 15% of future dwellings for Affordable Housing.
Other rezonings include land at Albert Park where approximately 200 dwellings up to a maximum of 3 storeys will be created with a new local park and 11.4 hectares at Brompton adjacent the Bowden and MAB development that will deliver up to a maximum of 1500 dwellings including 15% affordable. Currently over 90 new dwellings are already under construction within this rezoned area.
Our work to provide more opportunity for housing, along with useable, valuable open space and close access to transport is one way we are future proofing our City, ensuring current and future generations have access to sustainable, quality living in Charles Sturt.
