Mayor Appointed to Premier's Climate Change Council

14 August 2023
City of Charles Sturt Mayor Angela Evans

Mayor Angela Evans has been appointed as a member of the Premier's Climate Change Council until June 2026.

The Premier’s Climate Change Council was established under the Climate Change and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction Act 2007 and plays an important advisory role in providing independent advice on initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to climate change. It also plays a key part in consulting with businesses, the environment and conservation sector and the wider community.

Council members can be appointed from a range of backgrounds, including State and Local Government, business, science or conservation sectors and other sections of the State’s community more generally.

“Climate change mitigation and adaptation poses many challenges but also opportunities for us all,” Mayor Angela Evans shared.

“I look forward to engaging with my fellow members of the Premier’s Climate Change Council and contributing ideas in line what many Councils are exploring at Local Government level.”

Our City declared a Climate Emergency in December 2019 and formed a strategy to achieve net zero corporate greenhouse gas emissions.
