Henley Library Closure For Exciting New Build

24 October 2023

In exciting community news, work is progressing on the new Ngutungka Henley, with Henley Library to close at the end of October to prepare for construction.

Ngutungka Henley, to be located at 378 Seaview Road, Henley Beach, will become a community destination for both local residents and the wider Charles Sturt community. The new hub will feature a library collection, spaces to sit and study, a dedicated children’s area, spaces to hire (including a kitchen) and an undercover outdoor area.

“We are grateful to our community for their invaluable input and ideas. Ngutungka Henley - a combined library and community hub - has been designed to meet the needs of both the present and the future. We are delighted to have incorporated the heritage-listed Henley Town Hall into the project too, preserving its historical significance”, said Mayor Angela Evans.

Ngutungka is Kaurna for ‘Place of Knowledge’ and the new hub will be our second purpose-built community facility following the completion of Ngutungka West Lakes in 2022. The design is the result of extensive consultation with our community and JPE Architects.

Henley Library will officially close at 4pm, Sunday 29 October, 2023. Planned completion for Ngutungka Henley is end of 2024.

Project updates and project-related FAQs can be found on Facebook or on our project page .

The collection will be dispersed to our other library branches. During the closure, please visit Ngutungka West Lakes, Findon, Hindmarsh or Civic Library (Woodville) to borrow, use a service or attend a program or activity.
