Esteemed Award for our Mayor

18 April 2023

Congratulations to our very own Mayor Angela Evans who was awarded the Local Government Association of SA’s esteemed Joy Baluch Award.

Mayor Evans has been the Mayor of the City of Charles Sturt since 2014 and has over 16 years in local government. She also recently completed a term as the Local Government Association of SA’s President.

She is a wonderful advocate and supporter of her local community. She has forged partnerships, lead economic missions and overseen multi-million dollar projects in our City. She goes above and beyond and you’ll often find her meeting with community groups, chatting with local residents or in discussions with government bodies to help lobby for the local government sector.

Her commitment to local government, coupled with her many achievements in her role as Mayor, has also meant she has become an inspirational leader and mentor within the sector.

The LGA of SA summed it up beautifully, sharing: “Thank you for your unwavering dedication to making your community a better place, and for representing the voice of many women across your own council and the local government sector as a whole.”

The Joy Baluch Award acknowledges outstanding female leaders currently serving as elected members of South Australian councils. These leaders demonstrate leadership and innovation, and support the role of women in local government. The award honours the late (Nancy) Joy Baluch AM, former President of the LGA and Mayor of Port Augusta.

Thank you Mayor Evans - we are so proud of you.
