In collaboration with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, we have worked with Trident and our collection contractor Cleanaway to establish a trial of 100% recycled content bins. The trial will involve 100 households per Council across a few different suburbs.
Households involved in the trial have received 3 new black bins (waste, recycling and organics) made from 100% recycled HDPE plastic to replace their current bins. We will monitor the bin conditions with Cleanaway over the next 12 months.
You might notice these new bins around your neighbourhood on your collection day. The waste bin also now has a red lid (instead of a blue lid), in line with state government recommendations.
Once the trial is complete, we will review the data. Depending on the results, we may look to transition our bins to the 100% recycled content bins when replacement bins are requested due to damage.
We have been providing our community with dark green wheelie bins made with approximately 30% recycled plastic for many years. The move towards 100% recycled content bins is a great next step for us in supporting the local circular economy and purchasing more items made from recycled materials.
