Supporting our Ukrainian Community

12 April 2022

Our City is home to over 120,000 people from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. It is a place where everyone can feel safe and supported.

Council endorsed a resolution to recognise our Ukrainian population and extend our support to these families in light of current world events.

Councillors Sarah McGrath and Tolley Wasylenko shared the following statement:

"The City of Charles Sturt is home to many different peoples from many different countries. Tonight we echo the sentiments of the Ukrainian community, holding space in our hearts and sending love and prayers for a peaceful resolution to the current situation in Ukraine.

“We stand alongside the Australian-Ukrainian community in supporting the bravery of every son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle and grandparent facing this horrendous situation in Ukraine.

“Our thoughts are with those who have family and friends in Ukraine, may they overcome and be victorious so they can see and hug them again.”

For more information on how you can assist and donate in real ways for Ukrainians who are soon arriving in Adelaide, please visit the Help Ukrainians Australia website.

The Australian Government has also created an online registration portal for families affected by the conflict.

Registration enables consular services to assist with the safety and wellbeing of those abroad and allows individuals or families to be located and contacted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

All of our libraries and community centres have computers available for public use for those wishing to access this portal. Our staff on-site can also assist with accessing this technology.
