Electric Vehicles Take Charge in Our City

20 July 2022

We are proud to see our 6 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations along Port Road being used at a rapid rate with usage significantly increasing since last quarter.

In 2021, we installed six EV Charges as part of a partnership with JOLT charging stations in the median carparks at Port Road and South Road (Hindmarsh), Port Road and Mary Street carpark (Hindmarsh) and Port Road and Oval Avenue (Woodville).

We’ve seen a significant increase in usage with these chargers almost doubling their charge in the last 6 months. From April to June, we saw 694 charge events across our chargers with 5,347 kWh of energy delivered.

With fuel prices fluctuating significantly and many of our community considering more environmentally friendly transport alternatives, we’re already helping to make the transition to EVs easier. We expect to see the usage of these chargers continue to increase with more chargers to come over the next 12 months.

As a City, we’re taking charge, working towards climate change mitigation and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Our Net Zero strategy, provides us with some key targets to achieve by 2025. Electric Vehicle charging stations are a significant part of this strategy and a way in which we can support our community to consider more environmentally friendly means of transport into the future.

Each JOLT charging station is powered by 100% local, green energy, contributing towards a zero-emission future. Users will be able to get the first 7kWH free for 25kw DC electric vehicle charging services which is approximately 15 minutes or 45 kilometres of range.

Collaborating with the Cities of Marion and Port Adelaide Enfield to rollout the JOLT charging stations in 2021, we’re hoping to have a minimum of 15 stations within our City over the next 5 years.
