Streetscape Upgrade of Holden Street

17 October 2022

Works to reconstruct Holden Street are underway, with a new streetscape upgrade from Manton Street to Adam Street (adjacent the river).

Holden Street will be transformed into a pedestrian friendly precinct. Creating safer pedestrian/cyclist crossings and increased greening, whilst maintaining parking.

The streetscape upgrade will include:

  • improving the overall amenity of the street
  • creating a lower speed environment
  • improving pedestrian access to the stadium and precinct with wider footpaths
  • creating a bicycle friendly environment
  • improving the landscaping and promoting urban greening
  • accommodating the access requirements for heavy vehicles

These works form part of the Hindmarsh Precinct Upgrade which also includes:

  • streetscape upgrades of Mary Street, West Street and East Street
  • landscaping in Milner Street (completed)
  • pathway connections between Chief Street and East Street along the Port Road median (completed)
  • a raised intersection at Crawford Lane and Orsmond Terrace (completed)

The Hindmarsh Precinct Upgrade has been funded out of our scheduled project budget with further support of $1.75 million in funding received by the State Government through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program (LGIPP).

This project has a revised completion date of June 2023.

While we are aiming to minimise parking interruptions, there may be some restrictions to parking during the works.
