We’ve announced our winners for the ever-popular Mayoral Make-A-Book Literacy Challenge for 2021.
This year we received an astounding 627 original entries, with 61 individuals and 3 class entries winning some wonderful prizes.
The annual Challenge gives kids a chance to explore their creativity and create their own book as well as the opportunity to write with a real purpose for a real audience.
Mayor Angela Evans was joined by community judges and children’s authors Mike Lucas and Julie Dini who enjoyed meeting and congratulating the many budding authors and illustrators on the night.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of some of the most creative and enthusiastic children and young people in our City and recognise their efforts and dedication as storytellers, artists and community contributors,” she said.
“I would like to acknowledge an enormous amount of support and encouragement from the adults in the lives of those children that participated, as well as the teachers, principals and parents who promote this program, the library staff and council volunteers, our guest judges, and the staff who helped to make this evening a special occasion for everyone.”
The competition is open to any pre-school or primary school aged kid who lives or studies in the City of Charles Sturt council area and has been running since 1979, an amazing 42 years.
Congratulations to all the winners and well done to everyone involved.
