East Terrace Activation Part 2

The East Terrace Activation Project which we introduced back in November 2020 has now progressed to an exciting new phase.

Last November, Place Leader Sarah Maddock from Charles Sturt and the two shortlisted artists (a solo artist, as well as a duo collaboration) met with the four local businesses - The Stunned Mullet, Zante Greek Street Food, Kids Like That and Henley Hair.

The purpose of this was so the artists could learn more about what the business owners had in mind, as well as to make suggestions and see which ideas the business owners resonated with.

This interaction helped the business owners hear each others' views and preferences, and then come back to the artists with both a more cohesive and collaborative brief for them to work with.

Following this meeting, the artist team Sarah Boese and Monica Prichard were selected by the business owners to design a seat and artwork for the area.

You can view the Seat Design Proposal below. You will notice the level of detail and listening to the brief including many practical considerations, in order to ensure longevity of the mural. The selected design is inspired by the iconic Stunned Mullet as the fish seat is located there, and it also draws the eye and a pathway to the other businesses with the fish swimming up the sidewalk.

The artists are now working on the finer details of how to construct the seat and the project will be completed by June 2021. We will update you then.
