If you would like to make a request for new, street-tree planting within the city, here's what you need to know:
- We plant trees in our streets and reserves each year between April and September, in the cooler and wetter months, to ensure the highest chance of successful tree establishment.
- Each year, we select locations for planting based on resident requests, urban heat data, available tree spaces, alignment with other projects, existing infrastructure, and other local conditions.
- You can request trees to be planted at any time by making a reactive tree planting request (below). Approved tree planting requests will be scheduled as part of an annual planting program between April and September each year.
- If you are making a request for new tree planting in front of a residential property and you are not the property owner, we will have to discuss the request with the property owner.
- There is no cost for the tree planting, however we do need your help to care for the tree by watering it for at least the first 3 years; specifically once a week in Summer but twice a week in hotter weather, and by removing weeds from the base of the tree. To facilitate this, we will supply you with a bucket, gloves, a tree care sheet and liquid fertiliser to help you look after the tree.
- You can also make a request for tree planting for your whole street or in our reserves, where you think the local area and environment will benefit. These requests will be assessed and, if accepted, scheduled in one of our annual planting programs. We prioritise tree planting in reserves where irrigation is available or align new tree planting with new irrigation projects.
