West Beach Road Receives Commendation

17 November 2020

We are proud to announce we have received a High Commendation at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) Awards night on Friday 13 November 2020 for the West Beach Road redevelopment in the category of Best Public Works Project over $5 million.

West Beach Road, a major distributor road connecting western suburbs of Adelaide to the coast, averages around 4,000 vehicles per day, and during the summer months this traffic flow increases as holiday-makers flock to the coast to enjoy Adelaide's western beaches.

Spanning across both Council boundaries, we worked together with the City of West Torrens to provide a road that should help increase traffic flows and provide a much-needed aesthetic boost for the area.

The upgrade was in the planning for a number of years and involved a preliminary consultation process with residents and businesses in the area about their concerns and needs with regard to the road.

Following extensive consultation and the development of various design concepts, the $6.1m upgrade began in October 2018 and was completed in August 2019 with reconstruction of the existing road pavement, construction of new kerbs and a new central medians, the introduction of turning lanes, a new shared pedestrian/bike path, new lighting infrastructure and new landscaping.

The finished project is a valuable representation of modern integrated streetscapes and can be used as a standard for future projects.
