Local Government Award Winners

25 May 2021

We are pleased to share that we won two awards at the recent Local Government Professionals 20th Annual Leadership Excellence Awards.

The annual awards recognise outstanding achievement and innovation in local government and congratulations goes to:

Bec Lyons – Emerging Leader of the Year

Bec Lyons – Emerging Leader of the Year

Bec is the Coordinator Customer Experience for Charles Sturt Libraries and only joined the team in March 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic changed how we delivered our services, Bec’s exemplary skill set came to the fore as she worked tirelessly in a totally unfamiliar library environment to effectively navigate and steer the service and team through significant changes, which often occurred very quickly.

Her decision making and implementation skills meant that both the community and our staff adapted positively through the many changes and her leadership has continued with ongoing staff development and growth and building further efficiencies into Libraries’ operating processes. With Bec now working behind the scenes on the upcoming West Lakes Facility, we know that her professional and community-focussed approach will continue to build, aspire and drive a connected community.

Tyson Roling (City of Playford), Chelsee Crawford (City of Salisbury), Paul Zimny (City of Port Adelaide Enfield), Chloe Oborn (City of Tea Tree Gully) and Scott Edgecombe (City of Charles Sturt). Not present: Bryce Norton (Town of Gawler).

Northern Sport and Recreation Network Alliance - Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration

The Alliance is made up of six councils – including Cities of Charles Sturt, Salisbury, Playford, Tea Tree Gully, Port Adelaide Enfield and Town of Gawler – which provide timely support and assistance to sporting and community clubs.

This includes the delivery of relevant training and workshops to encourage upskilling and club viability, development of partnerships with key stakeholders and provision of a platform to grow participation in sport in the north.

In 2020 following the onset of COVID-19, the Alliance supported our local clubs through consistent messaging, online seminars and participation in programs which align with the State Government’s Game On initiative.

Congratulations to all.
