40km Technical Review and Consultation Complete

24 June 2020

We have completed our investigations into how effective the change to 40km/h areas has been at reducing driver speeds, cut-through traffic and local crashes within our City with the help of the University of Adelaide, who completed a technical review of traffic data and Painted Dog Research, who undertook a community survey in February with those who live in these 40km Areas.

We received 2,325 survey responses out of the 24,000 residents across 18 suburbs (Allenby Gardens, Beverley, Croydon, Findon, Flinders Park, Grange, Henley Beach, Hindmarsh, Kilkenny, Renown Park, Seaton, St Clair, Welland, West Croydon, West Hindmarsh, Woodville, Woodville Park and Woodville South) who had the opportunity to have a say on the 40km Areas in our City. The highest response rate was in Grange with 15.5% of responses.

In the survey, we asked you what you think and how you feel about the changes. We received some great responses and are now reviewing this and the results of the technical review to present to Council in late July. After this time, we will be able to provide more information to our community on our proposed way forward for future decision making about road safety in our local areas.
