A Smoke-Free Zone or Area is a designated area where smoking is prohibited under the Tobacco Products Regulation Act 1997. This includes cigarettes and e-cigarettes (vapes). Smoking is banned:
- Within 10 meters of children’s playground equipment located in a public area
- In public outdoor dining areas at any time that food is being offered. An outdoor dining area means an unenclosed public area in which tables and/or chairs are provided for the purpose of dining either permanently or temporarily.
Our Environmental Health Officers and Community Safety Officers monitor these areas. On the spot fines of $315 can be applied to anyone found smoking in smoke-free precincts.
In addition, we have a smoke free policy. which advocates for all council-run events to be smoke free.

Henley Square
Smoking is a declared smoke-free zone (this includes cigarettes and e-cigarettes (vapes). Strong community support was received when Council consulted on declaring Henley Square smoke-free. As a result the State Government passed laws creating Henley Square as a permanent smoke-free area. Signs are placed at the boundary of the smoke-free area and a number of butt bins are installed to allow for the responsible disposal of cigarette butts.

Plant 4 (Bowden Town Square)
Plant 4 is a declared smoke-free zone (includes cigarettes and e-cigarettes (vapes). Community engagement showed overwhelming support for the proposal which was approved by the State Government.
Signs have been placed at the boundary of the smoke-free area to increase awareness, and a number of bins have been installed to allow for the responsible disposal of cigarette butts.
