The hidden gems of Bowden and Brompton

Part 2

Hop on the train to Ovingham and head out to discover some of the magnificent street art of Bowden and Brompton.

The murals and sculptures are crucial in enhancing communities, fostering cultural identity, and enriching people's lives in numerous ways. There are several mesmerizing contemporary public art, increasing the beauty of the City of Charles Sturt. This art contains messages that create awareness, strengthen community bonds, and enrich the cultural landscape of cities and towns. These murals attract new residents, businesses, and investment, contributing to the regeneration of neglected neighbourhoods.

Come to Ovingham to explore the latest artwork, follow the map trail (featured below), finish at Plant 4, catch the train at Bowden, and head to Grange Beach.

Ovingham

In the Ovingham underpass, the artist Mike Maka, with the help of local Aboriginal artist Harley Hall has drawn multiple murals with his team.

One of the murals, Kakira the Kaurna, represents the moon and red kangaroo. In the surroundings, multiple businesses are filled with public artwork. Artist Alexandra Bellas has beautifully painted the walls of Riot Wine & Co. One part of the wall is painted with colorful abstracts representing the rolling hills, river, and soil in McLaren Vale.

Another part of the wall is painted with a Mural name "Save The Bees," creating awareness of the importance of bees. The "Holiday House Rental" walls are printed with multiple eye-catching murals. You can grab some takeaways from the Asian cousins from the surroundings.

Brompton

Gibson Street: This street, along with the surrounding street Hawker Street and Drayton Street, is filled with Public artwork.

19 On Green Community Centre on Green Street is filled with mesmerizing artwork.

Bring your family and friends to Emu Park to explore the sculptures. The park has BBQ facilities, sports facilities, a toilet, play equipment, a picnic area, and a Shelter for the visitors.

The artist James Smith has a mural on the wall of the Hotel Excelsior in Brompton. Visit Collins Reserve at Kidman Park and check out another one of James Smith's masterpieces.

Hawker Street: You can stop by Seven Grounds on Hawker Street for coffee to enjoy the Jasmine Crisp mural outside the cafe .

Bowden

Park Terrace: Lisa King, a famous street artist in Australia, has created multiple iconic eye-catching murals in the private apartments of Bowden.

Some of the murals are 26 meters high, enhancing the beauty of the surroundings.

These large murals representing femininity are the first of the Lisa King project, "Walls of Wonderment". You can stop by Jarmer's Kitchen and enjoy the mouthwatering food.

Plant 3 and Plant 4 Bowden: In the center of Bowden are Plant 3 and Plant 4, a bustling marketplace.

The market space's walls are also covered with unique street artwork, enhancing the artistic vibe of the venue. These public arts have positively impacted business too.

It's an ideal place to refill your tummy and spend quality time with loved ones.
