Food With a View – Tania Paola

We have loved tapping into the experience and knowledge of our business advisors, who we have been working with very closely during this time and with the rollout of our Economic Support and Stimulus Package Grants.

Tania Paola of Food With a View shares her hospitality and professional writing expertise.

Can you introduce yourself to our readers? How long have you been  in the hospitality industry and and can you tell our readers more about your career journey?

Hi everyone! I’m a Hospitality Consultant as well as a Writer. I’ve been consulting for 15 years and have a wealth of industry experience (over 30 years) as a partner in creating and running three family-owned restaurants in South Australia. All three businesses were built up from scratch and sold for a healthy profit, the most recent being Vino Ristorante in Unley which we created in 2001 and sold in 2017.

I started Food With A View shortly before selling Vino’s in 2017. At that time, I’d just finished my professional writing course, part of which involved creating a food blog as an extended project. I’d previously traded under ‘Tania Paola Consulting’, so ‘Food With a View’ encompasses both my consulting work and my work as a writer.

Can you tell us more about your consulting services as a writer? Where do you see your consulting services sitting in this ecosystem, and how do you see your areas of specialty?

As a previous small business owner, I’m aware of the many challenges owners face. The main areas I specialise in helping with are business coaching and planning, human resources, and systems implementation. In addition, my professional writing skills are available to assist with completing applications for Tasting Australia’s associated events.

Who do you feel you are able to work best with and help the most?

I work with a diverse range of clients and I’m always happy to have a chat over a coffee to determine whether my services are the best fit for you and your business. More information and client testimonials can be found on my ‘Food With a View’ website Food With a View.

If there was one key message you wanted to give business owners, what would that be?

My key message is that I still believe the hospitality industry is one of the most exciting and dynamic businesses to work in and enjoy success with. My goal as a consultant is to help businesses forge a path to success by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and making recommendations for improvement. In my experience, adopting a holistic growth mindset and prioritising work life balance are also key success factors.

What are the main issues you see coming up time and time again for your hospitality clients?

One of the main issues (other than the rising cost of utilities and cost of goods) I see hospitality clients struggling with today is time management and its domino effect of a poor work life balance and owner burnout. This is not only due to a lack of planning and internal systems, but is still the ongoing effect from the pandemic, which saw many workers transfer their skills to other industries and has led to a shortage of skilled staff.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

I’m passionate about the health of our food system and have a voluntary role as Leader of Slow Food South Australia which is part of the global, not for profit #slowfoodmovement devoted to the interconnected values of 'good, clean and fair' food and the preserving of local food traditions and biodiversity. I have a Certified Professional Restaurateur qualification and an Advanced Diploma in Professional Writing.
