Our response to COVID-19

We are proud to have over 117,000 residents who live across our council area, as well as 8,000 thriving businesses who choose to call our City home. Given the unfolding situation relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Australia and across the world, here at the City of Charles Sturt, our focus is on our community. As we respond to manage the spread of COVID-19, and then as we move into supporting our community to recover in the future, our focus will remain on what is best for our community.

We understand that there is a significant focus on COVID-19 in the media and across our community – both for our residents and businesses, as well as our employees. With a range of different measures being implemented at the Federal, State and Local level, it can be challenging to keep up to date on the facts of the virus and advice on our responsibilities in our community.

Although some things may change, our commitment is to maintain as many services as we can during the COVID-19 situation, and to prepare for the future; stimulating our local economy and supporting our community when it is time to recover.

We are basing our workforce across various Council sites in our City so we can be sure we can continue to meet the needs of our community in the short and longer term.

We're still here to help

Our Civic Centre front counter remains open and we are also continuing to offer assistance and connections with our community in a variety of ways, including:

  • waiving all fines and interest from April 2020 until October 31 2020 for rate payments not made by the due date
  • COVID-19 Hardship rate relief for eligible individuals/businesses
  • calling our vulnerable residents
  • offering call and collect options at our libraries
  • streaming our children story time sessions and other events online so you're still able to connect with us

Support for Local Business

We’re committed to assisting the community and local business as we all work together to recover from the impacts of the pandemic and prepare for the future.

We have developed an Economic Support and Stimulus package that will inject $100.5 million dollars into our community over the next two years to support the economic sectors of our community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Importantly, a portion of this will directly provide financial support to our local economy through individuals, hospitality and food, construction and recreation sectors and provide business support. Find out how you can apply.
