COVID-19 Update

Given the unfolding situation relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Australia and across the world, here at the City of Charles Sturt we want to be proactive and clear about how we can stay healthy and are making changes to the way we do things. Each day we will provide updates to the services and events that are impacted along with the latest information and recommendations from WHO, SA Health and the Government.

South Road underpass closed for works

The South Road underpass and River Torrens Linear Park (RTLP) path (adjacent the Hindmarsh Cemetery) has been identified for renewal in our Transport Asset Management Plan. We will be constructing a new underpass under South Road that connects the RTLP path together and widening the existing path along the Hindmarsh Cemetery with a handrail and balustrades on the river side of the path and new lighting installed, making it safer for bike riders and pedestrians along the shared use path. Connecting paths from South Road to the RTLP path will also be renewed.

Construction is set to commence at the end of April 2020 with works due to be complete in December 2020.

Detours for cyclists will be in place with detour signage along the path during construction. View the cyclist detour map.

During the works there will be localised traffic management on Adam Street between River Street and South Road. There will not be access to the carpark on the corner of Adam Street and River Street during construction as this will be the location of the site office for the works. If you are attending the Hindmarsh Cemetery, please be aware that the carpark is closed and our contractors are utilising cemetery paths intermittently to access the river bank and other minor detours will be in place for your safety.

For any construction enquiries, please contact Carmine D’Amico – Coordinator Transport Strategy & Assets on 8408 1189.
