Take a drive down Port Road, Hindmarsh after dark and you might notice a bright change to the Port Road median strip.
The new lighting is just one element of the Illuminating Hindmarsh project, part of the Hindmarsh Place Making Master Plan, designed to create a welcoming gateway for those travelling down Port Road.
Now complete, the Plan started in 2017 and involved the community and local businesses, with a focus on lighting, landscape and a streetscape precinct plan to enhance the image, safety and identity of the Hindmarsh area.
Other details of the plan:
- Tree lighting
- Additional seating
- External power for community events and activations
- Additional planting and landscaping
The project received a DPTI (DIT) Places for people grant of $196,990 for the construction stage of the project (funding agreement completion date 31 Dec 2020, actual completion 29 October 2020).
Other projects in the Hindmarsh Place Making masterplan that are also complete include: Reimagining Crawford Lane (art, bespoke seating, creative lighting and landscaping).
