We’re excited to share the Welland Healthy Living Precinct has been unveiled as the next GigCity, joining Adelaide’s ultra-fast fibre network.

Identified as a potential innovation hub, businesses in the Precinct have collaborated with us at the City of Charles Sturt as well as the State Government to join the growing GigCity network, which is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to the area.

The GigCity network is powered by SABRENet and EscapeNet and can provide high-reliability connections of 1 Gigabit per second and even faster access speeds, ideal for health industries and a host of other local businesses in the Precinct.

Mayor Angela Evans welcomed the exciting announcement, highlighting the importance of shared connections.

“The GigCity connection for the Welland Healthy Living Precinct will play a vital part in activating the area and creates a connection with other GigCity health precincts, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital precinct,” she said.

“We are a City dedicated to supporting our local businesses and economic growth in our area and this will lead to further collaboration between businesses, foster growth and will enhance the capabilities of the precinct in supporting local health and ageing well programs and projects with a digital focus for our community.”

The GigCity connection will also assist in business retention and attraction to the area, with estimates suggesting it will support 200 additional jobs in the next 12 to 18 months.

GigCity precincts were selected as part of an Expression of Interest process open to metropolitan councils. Each site was selected on suitability, predicted job outcomes and benefits to the state.
