Two abstract acrylic paintings, from the exhibit 'In Pairs

'In Pairs' Art Exhibition

This exhibition was the result of the artist's realisation that everything she paints - happens to be in pairs. Whether it’s a still life with a similar composition, a landscape scene at a slightly different time of day, or the same style portrait of a different person.

The artist – Jadranka Sunde – said she feels at home in two different worlds and is inspired by duality.

After years in academia as a mathematician, and decades as an executive and scientist for the Australian Defence Department; Jadranka retired in 2016 with the intention to travel and share her time between her two homes - Croatia and Australia.

In 2021, travel restrictions were imposed and in this newfound spare time she decided to start attending painting classes. Her journey began with classes in Hindmarsh Library, where she met a group of like-minded people. They formed a painting group called ‘Life More Painterly’ and continued to paint together.

This will be Jadranka’s fourth solo exhibition, and her second in Australia.

Black and white sketch of an old man with a large moustache and wide brimmed hat

Human fates in Europe art exhibition by Lajos Ritók

This art exhibition aims to show faces of people of a disappearing world. People who lived in harmony with nature, who appreciated everything and didn't want to have more than they had. They accepted everything, even a piece of bread, as a gift. They honoured themselves, their partners, the animals, everything, which nurtured their souls. Even if destiny tested them to the extreme, they stayed straight and pure humans.

Lajos Ritok: “My aim is to draw as naturally as I breath, so I can merge deeper in things that are swirling in my soul. To search ceaselessly the moment when the strokes get tired and join me. To tame the stroke and walk with it as nature permits. To try to speak sincerely with my talents about the destiny of man and things around us and accept them.”

Lajos Ritók is a Hungarian artist born in 1968 in Rumania. Since 1989 he has lived in Hungary, in the city of Debrecen. He has three tertiary diplomas in arts and works as a painter, graphicist and sculptor. He has had more than 490 exhibitions in Europe, Amerika, Asia and Africa. Twice he has had exhibitions in the Louvre, and once his works were exhibited with those of Rembrandt. To Hindmarsh Library he is bringing some of his charcoal portraits.
